Mcconnell's is just a generic Irish pub that you can find in any random American city. They certainly have the shtick down with cheap oak furnishings everywhere and a few taps. But overall, I was just not impressed. My uncle, who we were visiting in Key West, really likes this bar, so I unfortunately went here three times in the course of a week. Apparently some nights they have live music, but I don't want to sound harsh when I say it was probably the worst Irish bad I've heard. There was a pretty amateurish feeling to this place. The clientele is mostly old local people who know each other and know the bar, so be prepared for that if you decide to eat here. It has a good location right on Duval Street, but that's about it. With so many bars in Key West, I would skip this one. The bathrooms are disgusting.

Smithwicks on Tap. Love it!! Trivia on Thursday. We had a really good time. Chill and laid back

Arrived in Key West with the girls and just looked for a random place to eat. We found this place and everything was delish. The corned beef is amazing, get the Reuben! They make a lot of stuff in house, not prepackaged. Andrew is super nice! Will definitely come back.

If I could give it 0 stars, I would. We got a table and the server explained that he refused to give us separate checks before even saying hello, and we didn't even ask him about it. Then he gave us only breakfast menus and it was noon. He threw them down and walked away before we could ask for the lunch menus. When he came back to get our order, we requested the lunch menus and he frustratingly stormed off and brought them back 5 minutes later after tending to everyone else before coming back. At this point we'd still not been asked about drinks or been able to order a drink. When we got the menus for lunch (20 minutes after we sat down) we asked to order our drinks and meals and were told we could only order drinks at the time and couldn't order our food yet. At this point we gave up and started discussing leaving. When the people next to us overheard us, they leaned over and gave us the thumbs up that we were on the right track. We left immediately after.

:( no drinks worth a mention. Poor rendition of a British Snakebite. Service was good- liquor wasn't. Ambiance nothing particularly great. Save the Irish Pub for home.

The service was great and the food arrived quickly. The menu was typical of an Irish pub with a good beer selection. We ordered the BYO burgers (so can't speak for the traditional Irish food) but the burgers were fantastic. One fallback was one of us ordered fries and the other ordered the homemade chips, but we both received the fries. Our server promptly ordered us the house chips and we received TWO plates in a matter of minutes, free of charge. Overall, very impressed the service and the food was great. If you're looking for seafood, this might not be the place (just a Mahi sandwich), but I definitely recommend this place.

Fish tacos are amazing! Get them blackened with a Bass. Oh and they don't take AmEx so bring your Visa or cash.

Was there on Friday night. One bartender and while he was good, he was obnoxious and overwhelmed. Think his name was chris. Definitely should have had more help as he could not keep up with the bar crowd. Band was excellent. Nice place, cool hangout.

This place had GREAT FOOD! The shepherds pie was AMAZING! I had the potatoe leek soup and loved it! The only reason I took one star is the service was slow but I think it was because of the time we went. It was starting to get busy because there was an awesome band playing! I really enjoyed it! Just waited a lot longer than usual. Stop by, you will love it!

This was amazing! We went into this bar once to just see it since my best friend was with us and she is from Ireland. We did some photos and then headed out. We then went back after returning from a rum cruise and it was AMAZING! We got a drink and sat to enjoy the show and it was perfect! It was a country singer and he was great at working the crowd and singing songs we could all enjoy. It was hard to leave there, and I know it was one of the highlights of my trip for sure!

Hit up the happy hour: $5 appetizers! The wings can be tossed in a variety of sauces. The conch fritters come with a tangy key lime mustard. My boyfriend and I wanted fish tacos and our server suggested we get them blackened, which turned out to be an excellent choice. Great service, great food and a great happy deal. GO HERE :)

I just had a bad experience. I think the others in my group liked their food. First of all we were seated in a square with two tiny tables that were not close enough so 3 of us had to have our plates in our laps. I had the coconut shrimps and could barely taste coconut, it just tasted like the crispy bread. I also had a Caesar salad and the chicken wasn't really warm and sometimes, I swear, I felt like I was eating shit. The taste made me think of how dog shit smells, soo I didn't finish the chicken. And also, they didn't have coke, only Pepsi

Enjoyed an afternoon here. The atmosphere was great the air conditioning was great and the drinks were cold. The food was good the staff friendly and helpful and an all around great Irish Pub.

Wandered in on a Friday afternoon looking for a quick bite. Andrew suggested the fish tacos and they did not disappoint! Both were amazing, but the blackened fish tacos were phenomenal! Service was outstanding too!!

Eh. No wheat beers, and was willing to settle for a cold ginger ale, which was unavailable. Bar staff wasn't very friendly.

A little late on my review of McConnell's. It was during Fantasy Fest. Got called in by random drunk partiers. I'm not one for partying, but decided to have a little fun. Friendly staff, nice environment, great music. Definitely coming back soon for some food.

Whiskey selection is good. The POS was apparently a "POS". Service was slow, disjointed and overall not the best. Wouldn't discount it as we have been here before but not a great effort. Since when are apps supposed to come with your entree??

Ok you fish and chip lovers you just got lucky. Sometimes you have to be adventurous and just plain lucky. We decided to go to Mcconnells and I wasn't actually happy about it and not because I don't like fish and chips and onion rings and Guinness, it's because I love all of the above. But it seems every time I'm in key west I'm not at all happy with the circumference of my belly and any of the above was not going to help with me leaving key west with less of a circumference which I never seem to be able to do. So when I heard one of the off menu specials was a scallion encrusted grouper I decided to be adventurous and boy did I get lucky! This could be the all time best piece of grouper I have ever had! I scraped the plate clean, I mean every morsel on this dish was delicious and cooked to perfection. I was so happy I had to go into the kitchen and compliment the chef. This guy knows how to cook. The other thing I noticed immediately is that if I had to eat my grouper off the floor I could. The kitchen was immaculately clean. So if you're walking by and not in the mood for standard Pub food do yourself a favor and don't keep walking, go in, sit down and order a gourmet entree. In fact they should change the name to Mcconnels Gourmet Irish Pub and Grill. We also had the lobster Bisque, which unlike many Bisques had huge chunks of actual super fresh lobster in it and really awesome soda bread. We had to have something Pubby so we had onion rings, oh my were they good! Plus I had several dark pub beers. Another thing you wouldn't expect in a pub is super clean bathrooms with salt scrub for your hands! A lovely touch I might say. So let's sum it up, great Irish pub ambience with really good music, beautiful outdoor seating, great pub dishes and best of all they have a gourmet chef in the back that knows what he's doing and is serving up some really delicious food! Mcconnels just made my very hard to make list of key west eateries that now is Pisces, Black Fin Bistro, Ambrosia, Blue Heaven and the French Creperie. And PS I've tried all the other places including Seven Fish which I did not like at all!! Their Grouper was a joke compared to Mcconnels.

They have a bar card on their window, but do not take the 2013 bar card. We stopped in here to grab some lunch and some drinks. Our waitress was Kathlynn, and I think she was probably 75% of the entire restaurants waitress. We each ordered food. I got the chicken quesadillas and the mango crush to drink as it was on special. The chicken quesadillas were excellent. Pepper Jack cheese, pico, sour cream, and chipotle, yum. The mango crush was also very good. They also had an Irish cider on tap which was very good. At an Irish bar you expect Guinness, they were out. You also expect them to have pork belly, they were out. The waitress also could not split our check 3 ways. But she did allow us to do the math and tell her what to charge to each of our cards...not exactly what I want to be doing tipsy. Overall excellent food, excellent drinks. But the waitress seemed stressed and could not give our table the attention it needed.

Good food, But poor customer service. I got there early and asked if I could watch my football game on one of the screens. (Chiefs vs. Titans - I am a diehard Chiefs fan. ) I was told that I could definitely watch my game. The place was NOT crowded at all - maybe a dozen patrons in all. So I ordered lunch (very tasty) and waited for kickoff. Come game time they refused to put my game on ANY of the screens that could get the game because two bozos at the bar didn't want that game on. I was there first and promised a screen. Thst was just plain rude and bad customer service in my book and I will not be patronizing that establishment in the future.

Love the inside! There are a quite a few Irish pubs/restaurants to choose from, but as we pulled up there was music playing - SOLD!! We ordered 2 Priest Collar's (strongbow and Guiness in Ireland), but here they're called Black Velvets. Learning curve, I suppose, so it was fun messing with the server. :) We enjoyed the indie rockabilly music for a while before leaving. The bar looked like it had a good setup for any liquor you could want, including some typical Irish liquors. Would go back!

A descent place for an Irish pub. Finnegan's Wake Irish Pub & Eatery located on Grinnell Street is way better.

We had high hopes for this pub when we went in for lunch and drinks. Our meal started off with receiving drinks- one that contained worms- yes worms! After an apology from the waitress and a new drink, we put in our lunch order. After waiting for a while and seeing every person around us receive their food (including those that ordered after us) our waitress came around to tell us our order hadn't printed out in the kitchen. We found that hard to believe since everyone else had received their food. Businesses who care about their clients would typically offer some sort of complimentary item(s) for mistakes like this. We, however, were charged for every item received! We were extremely disappointed with the way this restaurant handled their mistakes and will not being going there again.

Great music and a proper pint. If you're looking for a pub in Key West go here and avoid the other tourist traps.

Corned beef was outstanding. Really high quality meat and a generous accompaniment of cabbage, carrots and small red potatoes. Fish and chips was also outstanding, as the fish was fresh and flavorful. The accompanying fries weren't so great but we didn't mind given the excellent quality of everything else. Our waiter was also great. We will definitely be back!

We found this place on our first walk down Duval Street on what was the hottest and rainiest first of 3 days I've ever had on vacation. They just installed new AC's and the place was cool as can be. Jorie the bartender, who can down an Irish Car Bomb faster than anybody I've seen, was fast, pleasant and your glass will never hit bottom. Great atmosphere, music was at a very tolerable level. The beer was cold, fresh (no skunky taste from dirty tubes) and the place was hopping. We ordered food figuring typical OK bar food, were we wrong. I had The Royal Reuben and let me say, having grown up in Brooklyn eating in delis all my life, this is the top 3 Reubens I've ever had, period. I liked it so much I had it 3 days in a row. If you get down there you have to go to McConnell's. It is Key West - lively, fun, and a great time.

I can't really comment on the food since I only stopped in here to have a few drinks. The drinks were made fast but were not really strong. They have a pool table and were playing a football game on tv.

I was skeptical at first when I first saw this place. The last time i was in KW it was not around so I assumed it was a tourist trap. We went in to grab a few drinks and found out it really is mainly a local bar at night. Good drink and great bar. It is kinds of touristy form the outside and during the say but at night its a low key spot.

On Christmas Eve this place was as busy as any other day. I ordered the shrimp po' boy. Great bread, 5 huge crispy shrimp, just the right amount of sauce and a side of fries. Very tasty sandwich. The rum runner was extraordinarily sweet for me, but they made me another drink without charging me. Great service, great food. Cool place too out on the patio.

We tried this place recently when wanted something casual before a show reservation. The bar was busy and I assume this is probably a decent place to hang out and have a beer and watch football. First of all, we waited forever to get the table washed off, forever for drinks and three or four people all said they would help us but they didn't seem to have a system for staffing. As for food, I had a decent shrimp po boy, but my husband's reuben was awful. And again, when it came to service it was weird and I know Key West is weird but to have a random waitress sit down with us at the end of our night was not what we wanted.

The service was excellant, but the fish & chips were not that great. The Cole slaw is awesome.

We decided to try their breakfast because our hotel was close by. I ordered the Irish Pancakes with chocolate chips and my boyfriend ordered scrambled eggs, rashers (Irish bacon), potatoes, and toast. The pancakes and syrup had no flavor, except for the chocolate chips. It was like eating water. My boyfriend said his food was okay. The service is so-so. There was only one server. He forgot to bring out my boyfriend's toast. He never offered my boyfriend a refill on his coffee. I can't speak for the lunch and dinner, so maybe those meals are better.

"New chef and food is WAY better. Thoroughly enjoyed my corned beef and cabbage. Veggies done just right, not mushy. Corned beef melts in the mouth. Hubby had Shepard's pie that he devoured! Great value considering it is KW

Ate dinner there on January 21, 2013. This was not my first time at this restaurant but it was clear there was a new chef in charge. The food is great. Both my wife and I agree this was a great experience.

We dropped in here one afternoon because they had cheap drafts and some of the guys had to use the bathroom. Nice bartender chick with a cool accent. I was too drunk to remember much else.

  • Sara M.

The food was actually pretty good but the service might have been the worst I've ever had. It took maybe 20 minutes to get our drinks and she forgot the sodas and water twice. She seemed completely annoyed to take our order and didn't ask one of us what's sides we wanted. Two of us ordered appetizers and got it after our main dish was served. She forgot to but my husbands order in then took forever to serve it so we were all done eating when he got it. They gave us no money off because of that either. She had the wrong drinks on our bills and didn't adjust them. Her ineptness took away from the entire experience. There are too many other places in Key West to bother with this go somewhere else!

Came here for drinks one night as we were exploring duval. Was decently crowded with a decent band playing. Carpet was a little dated but otherwise the bar seemingly transports you out of key west into Ireland. Being from Boston it clearly does not compete with he authenticity of irish pubs in Boston but they tried. What was the most disappointing was the drinks. They DO NOT know how to pour a Guinness. They literally just poured it into a glass which was extremely disappointing and a waste of our money. The vodka pineapple was standard. After our experience here we avoided the rest of the "irish" pubs in the keys.

    (1)

Great staff. Our bartender was from Dublin, and we had an absolute blast talking and joking with her. Great spot right on Duval that I'd love to visit again. Ask about Taco Tuesday!

After a weekend of pub fried foods, it was refreshing to have some great choices. The chicken pot pie was absolutely the best pot pie I have had since my mom passed away. The Irish nachos also were a surprise with homemade potato chips and corned beef. Definitely a great choice for some home style food.

I hate to give an Irish Pub less than a 4, but this place was just ok. There was not a tremendous amount of irish fare and the service was just average. The usual fish and chips and Harp on tap, but a little bit run down. It has a long history though. Based on the wall pictures it has been there for a long time and under several different names. Overall, it's an Irish Pub. Cheers!!

Wonderful pub! Great food, proper Irish fare with a good Key West flair. Great service. Loved Geno! Treated us like we were regulars. Definitely a spot u can't afford to miss when in Key West.

My husband had a black n tan on tap which he enjoyed. They didn't offer any gluten free beers so I had a cabernet. The atmosphere here is fun and yet not like a dive joint. We didn't eat so I cannot attest to the food. The service was friendly and fast.

Great pub with friendly staff and an awesome band last night. Irish nachos and onion rings were excellent. Fun, relaxed place!

Had a great lunch here. Conch fritters yummy, burgers are great and even pulled pork BBQ. Jory the bartender was a blast!

While I did not eat here, some friends and I stopped in for some drinks and played a few rounds of pool. We were introduced to a shot called, "Pickleback," by the owner Jerry. Really nice guy. This is probably the most comfortable Irish pub I have been to in Key West (including Irish Kevin's, Finnigans Wake and Shannas). It has wide open space and all of the furniture and paint is fresh and not all beat to hell like some places. Oh yeah, and very clean bathrooms!... Probably the only downside to this particular establishment is that, at the 900 block, its a little ways down the strip from all the action. No worries though, if you are in the area or willing to make the trek it is well worth the walk or scooter/bike ride.

Making Our way to the southern most point We bumped into this place. There was a sign outside that said seven dollar car bombs!! one of my girlfriend was with me surprisingly had never had one before! So of course we had to go in and break her in. The waitress was friendly And the drinks were fabulous! Ordered chicken wings and they were pretty good. If you're making your way down to the southern most point, a definite stop.

Food was good, service was a tad slow but nothing major. Also played a couple games of pool, good table, my only complaint is that the pool table was right by the kitchen

Wow, this place was horrible. The service here sucked, my food took a really really long time. I had to visit the bartender to get waters this was on a Sunday night and the place wasn't even busy. The food was cold when it showed up. I don't understand how the service could be this bad.
